2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
91 pts – Tasting Panel
I created the Kaena Noir label to share my love of Bordeaux varietals that captured my heart on my first visit to California and Napa in April of 1996. That trip forever changed my life, and these wines are in homage to the great Bordeaux style wines of Oakville and Rutherford. Stag Canyon is located on the eastern edge of the Santa Ynez Valley and is perfectly situated for growing world class Bordeaux varietals with its rocky alluvial hillside and tight spacing. The grapes were destemmed and crushed followed by a 5-day cold soak prior to native yeast fermentation lasting 12 days. This Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in 20% new French oak and 20% new American oak for 36 months on lees prior to bottling.
Deep aromas of plum and rich flavors of dark cherry and sweet tobacco with a bright and juicy finish with complex, long-lasting tannins. Enjoy now or cellar for 5-10 years.
