2014 Tierra Alta Grenache
As always Tierra Alta with its steep limestone hillsides continues to amaze me, especially in 2014 with warm growing conditions. Grapes were harvested the last week in mid September the earliest on record with ripe tannins. The wine was fermented with 1/3 whole cluster for heightened aromatics and greater texture of the wine. 100% Grenache aged for 23 months in 2-4 year old French oak. Deep aromas of cranberry, pomegranate and raspberry along with lavender, hibiscus, licorice, violets, herbs de Provence, allspice and sandalwood. Lush flavors of cherry, pomegranate and rhubarb lead to a juicy core layered with cocoa, suede, herbs de Provence, strawberry cream, cocoa and white pepper. The finish is long and elegant highlighted by lush silky tannins. 200 cases produced.
